Women's Board of Summa Health System
The Women’s Board of Summa Health System has served the Akron City Hospital since 1922. Originally called the Women’s Auxiliary Board, it was formed to serve the hospital and to administer the Memorial Research and Free Bed funds. The Junior Board, another women’s organization at Akron City Hospital, was formed in 1957 with the task of raising funds for Women’s Health issues through proceeds from the Plant Place. In September of 2007, the Auxiliary Board and the Junior Board merged to create the Women’s Board of Summa Health System. With over 85 active members, the Women’s Board runs the Gift Shop and the Plant Place on the Akron City Hospital Campus. Other fundraisers include uniform, jewelry and other sales for the employees on the campus.
The Women’s Board of St. Thomas Hospital
The Women’s Board of St. Thomas Hospital was formed in 1958 to support hospital programs and has 85 active members. Since it was created, the Board has raised more than $2.6 million for the hospital through numerous fundraisers, including its signature event, A Day at the Races, which this year celebrates its 45th year. The Women’s Board also operates the hospital’s Gift Shop and Twice as Nice shop, and holds such fundraisers such as jewelry and uniform sales, a holiday brunch and other events.
The purpose of this organization shall be to advance the welfare of Summa Health system through financial assistance to the organization and its' patients. These activities shall be subject through ways approved or proposed by the Board of Directors of Summa Health System and the Summa Health System Foundation.
The Board is operated exclusively for charitable purposes and will be operated exclusively for the benefit of the hospital.
The Women's Board operates two shops; The Plant Place and The Gift Shop. The Plant Place specializes in floral designs and gifts for baby as it is near the maternity unit. Plant Place is also your location for Summa wear. The gift shop has a full line of gifts for all occasions, cards, balloons, snacks, jewelry,magazines, and plush toys. To eliminate all behavior motivated by prejudice or lack of understanding.
